Nettle Leaf

Brews pale yellow-green
  • Nettle brews an earthy, grassy cup with a smooth mineral finish and a taste many compare to green tea, only milder and less bitter. The dried leaf carries a mellow, vegetal flavour with light notes of fresh hay. It is naturally caffeine free, so it suits any time of day, whether you want a warm mug in the morning or a lighter drink before bed.
  • Simple to prepare either way. From the loose leaf, add one to two teaspoons per cup, pour over freshly boiled water, steep for five to ten minutes and strain through a fine mesh. From a pyramid bag, drop one in the cup and steep the same way, with nothing to strain afterwards. A shorter steep keeps the cup light and grassy, a longer one draws out a richer, fuller bodied flavour. Drink it hot, or pour it over ice.
  • Enjoy it on its own or build your own blends. It pairs well with peppermint, lemon balm, dried citrus peel, or a spoon of honey, and makes an easy iced tea for warm days. Its clean, herbaceous base also mixes smoothly into green or black tea when you want extra depth. Adjust the strength to taste with more leaf or a longer steep.
  • Beyond the cup, the dried leaf has a long culinary history. Stir the loose leaf into simmering soups, broths, and stocks, or add a pinch to grain and vegetable dishes for a savoury, spinach like note. Since the leaf is already dried the sting is gone, so it is ready to use straight from the pouch.
  • Grown to organic standards and sold as whole leaf rather than dust or fannings, so you can see the quality of what you are steeping. Choose a resealable pouch of loose leaf, or a box of pyramid bags for convenience. Traditionally enjoyed across Europe as a garden plant and everyday brew, it remains a staple on many herbal tea shelves today.
